Karen Brenner specializes in painting beautiful moments in the lives of horses. Her paintings are done using translucent layers of oil paint on gessoed masonite boards to achieve the luminous, rich colors that make her work distinct.
Karen enjoys traveling to horse farms and equine events to photograph horses of every breed. Capturing horses at work and rest, and -- their favorite -- grazing, Karen creates intimate compositions with vibrant, realistic, colors. Her coffee table book, Beautiful Moments in the Lives of Horses, features many of her favorite paintings and photographs. And Retrospective 2000-2010 is a small catalog featuring some of her favorite paintings from her first 10 years as an equine artist.
With the goal of traveling to every state in the USA to photograph horses, Karen chooses a new state every year for her "Beautiful Horses of...," series. You will find photos from her completed and current state series featured on this website.
She also does commissions for people who would like a painting of their own horse.
Recently, Karen's painting, Mustangs Running Near White Moutain, was featured on the Showtime series, Ray Donovan. Karen is included in Pony Boy's book, Of Women and Horses--More Expressions of the Magical Bond. Her painting, Parallel Pair - Two from Casa Lusitana, was featured in Dressage Today magazine. Her work has also been included in Equine Vision Magazine and on the covers of Horseman's Corral and Horse Lover's Gifts and Chamisa Ridge's catalogs.
Karen's paintings have been displayed in the Ohio State Fair Fine Arts Exhibit and in the American Academy of Equine Art's Fall Show.
Karen enjoys trail riding with her two quarter horses and training her Andalusian mare. She lives in Wooster, Ohio with her husband, Will.
Karen has a BFA and a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
